DAY 6 : Courage To Build Healthy Rhythms

Aug 14
3 min read

It is so easy to fall into the fast pace of life. We wake up, get ready for school or work, go

through the day, care for our families, eat, sleep, and then do it all over again. That routine alone

can feel overwhelming, and it does not even account for the added responsibilities we carry

through community, ministry, church serve teams, and other commitments.

When we are not anchored in biblically healthy disciplines, we can unintentionally create

rhythms that are unhealthy and unsustainable.

SCRIPTURE

Mark 1:35–37

35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. 36 Later Simon and the others went out to find him. 37 When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”

EXPLANANTION

Jesus had just spent days caring for and ministering to countless people. He had cast out demons and healed the sick. After that, He went to Peter’s home, where He found that there was still more ministry to be done. He healed Peter’s mother-in-law, and before there was even time to truly rest, more people began to gather. With crowds filling the doorway, Jesus continued healing person after person.

Even after all of that, when morning came, people were already looking for Him again.

What stands out is how intentional Jesus was. He did not allow the constant needs around Him to dictate His every move. He stepped away to an isolated place—not only to rest, but to pray and commune with the Father. Jesus showed us that even in a life full of purpose, pressure, and people, time with God must remain the priority.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Jesus gives us a perfect example of what it looks like to not let life’s circumstances or other

people set the pace of our lives. There will always be something demanding our attention—

family, friends, work, ministry, or unexpected situations. If we allow every need and every voice to lead us, we will quickly become drained.

That is why we must intentionally put healthy boundaries and spiritual disciplines in place. A

godly rhythm begins and ends with practices that deepen our relationship with Jesus. Prayer,

studying Scripture, meditation, and taking Sabbath are all gifts God has given us to help us

remain connected to Him. Jesus is the only one who can truly sustain us.

To establish and maintain healthy rhythms in life, we must have faith in and trust in the Lord.

Choosing a healthy, godly rhythm means saying, “I will do less in my own strength and trust

God more.” It means believing that God can do more through our obedience, surrender, and rest than through our constant striving and overextension.

ENCORUAGEMENT/CHALLENGE

What random or consistent tasks are keeping you from spending time with the Lord?

What boundaries or disciplines do you need to put in place to protect that relationship?

Do you trust Jesus enough to rest? Do you trust Him enough to Sabbath?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, give me the courage to trust You. I want a healthy rhythm that honors You with my life. Yes, there is much work to do, but I do not want to get ahead of You. I need Your Spirit to sustain me. Teach me to slow down, seek You first, and trust that You are enough. In Jesus’ name, amen.
