I’ll never forget sitting in that room with my father—now gone—wondering what God was doing. I prayed, believed, and hoped for more time, but the room went quiet and my faith cracked with my heart. That’s what fractured faith feels like—when God doesn’t do what you asked and doubt slips into your heart. I still believed God could do anything… but in that moment, I wasn’t sure He would do it for me again.
If you can? said Jesus. Everything is possible for one who believes
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief! Mark 9:23–24
Application
This father in Mark 9 had real faith. He came to Jesus because he believed Jesus could heal his son. His struggle wasn’t God’s ability; it was believing God would do it for him. And that’s where many of us get stuck. We can believe for others, but when it’s our own pain or unanswered prayers, doubt suddenly speaks louder than faith.
Like this father, we often end up praying, “Lord, I believe… but help what’s broken in me.”
Doubt will come, but the real question is: What will you do with it?
His story shows us the answer—bring your unbelief to Jesus.
Reflection Question
Where in your life have you experienced a fracture in your faith?
Encouragement
There will be seasons we simply don’t understand God’s plan. Times when the outcome looks nothing like what we prayed. Moments where we don’t have answers, only ache. But even there—especially there—God invites us to trust His heart when we can’t trace His hand. What I love about this story is simple but profound: Jesus never shames the father for asking for help. He doesn’t correct him… He doesn’t rebuke him… He responds with compassion. If Jesus welcomed his honest prayer, He’ll welcome yours too. And that gives us courage— courage to ask again, trust again, and dare to believe again.
Prayer
Father, Heal the fractures in our faith today. Where prayers felt unanswered, bring comfort. Where loss has shaken us, bring peace. Where doubt has taken root, bring restoration. Give us the courage to believe again…to trust You again…to hope again. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When we can’t trace God’s hand, we can trust His heart… and keep believing.
