Day 4: Courage To Obey | 7 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING

Deuteronomy 31:6 CSB

Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the LORD your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”

We see it time and time again in movies or TV shows or commercials: a child is suddenly filled with courage when they realize their parent is near. It is a tale as old as time, but it does not make it any less true. There is something about having someone who you know will help you, catch you, or steady you that gives you permission to take risks. We find strength because we

know someone stronger is with us. This is exactly what God does for us.

God speaks to Moses and tells him, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” It is God’s presence that enables obedience, especially when the path ahead is unclear. Moses reminds them that the God who carried them through the wilderness would be the same God who would go before them into the land.

Their courage did not need to come from their own strength but from their confidence in God’s faithfulness. If God promised it, then they could step forward knowing He would not fail them now. Courage in the kingdom of God is never rooted in our personality, our talent, or our certainty about the future.

Courage is rooted in proximity

When we know God is near, when we are aware that the One who holds the world also holds us, fear begins to lose its grip. We may still feel the tremble in our hands, but we move forward anyway because His presence steadies our steps. Many of us hesitate to walk in obedience because we are waiting to feel brave first. Scripture teaches something different. Obedience is often the doorway into courage. We step because He is with us. We risk it because His hand is guiding us. We obey because the God who calls us is the God who catches us. So today, take the step you have been afraid to take. Have the conversation. Start the project.

Say yes to what God has been whispering to you. Not because you are fearless, but because you are not alone. His presence is the reason you can move forward with confidence.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being near. Give me the courage to obey You even when I feel uncertain. Remind me that I am never walking alone and that Your presence is my strength. Help me trust You with every step I take. Amen.

Hebrews 13:6

“So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper. I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
