We all believe that God has big plans for our lives. He wants to use us in a mighty way,
but I don’t know about you, sometimes I get in the way of God. On the outside, we may
have all the confidence in the world, but on the inside, we struggle. In order to step into
all that God has for us, we need courage to see ourselves, the parts we hide, the doubts
we try to ignore, and the fears that hold us back.
It takes bravery to look honestly at who we are, acknowledge our weaknesses, and
confront the things that make us uncomfortable. We often hear that we can be our own
worst enemy, and self honesty may be one of the hardest journeys we ever take. Truly
looking in the mirror means facing not just the world, but yourself, your insecurities,
doubts, fears, and uncertainties. Sometimes, confronting what is within is far more
difficult than facing anything outside of you. But it is in facing these things that we grow,
so we can become all that God created us to be.
Joshua 1:9
This is my command. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For
the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua had just been appointed as the leader of Israel after Moses death. The Israelites
were about to enter the Promise Land, a task full of challenges, including battles against
established nations. God reassured Joshua that leadership and the task ahead were not
about his own strength, but about trusting God’s presence and guidance. The call to be
strong and courageous is repeated multiple times in the chapter to emphasize reliance
on God rather than self.
This verse is not just about physical courage. It is about spiritual courage, obedience,
faith, and confidence in God’s promises, even when facing fear, uncertainty, or personal
limitations.
Personal Reflection
I know that my confidence does not come from myself, but from God, who goes before
me and is always with me. I may have insecurities and fears, and I may feel scared or
unsure in some areas of my life, but I can give those to God and trust that He is with me
no matter what. Even when fear or doubt arises, I can step forward boldly and confidently, knowing that God will never leave me and that He holds me every step of the way.
Encouragement
Just as Joshua needed courage to lead into unknown territory, we need courage to face
our own hearts. Joshua was facing giants in the land, but his first battle was likely the
giants of doubt within his own mind. In the same way, we wrestle with our doubts, fears,
insecurities, and mistakes. God’s presence is not only for external battles. It is for the
internal ones too.
Today, pick one hidden fear or insecurity you have been avoiding. Bring it to God in
prayer and say, "Lord, I am afraid of this, but I trust you are with me no matter what."
PRAYER
Jesus, we are so grateful that you are the kind of God who never leaves us or forsakes us. Thank you for being our ever present help in times of need. We thank you that our confidence is in you, and we can rest knowing that you are God and God alone.
Father, we cast all our insecurities, fears, anxieties, doubts, and uncertainties onto you.
Thank you that you are such a mighty God that you can take it all. We trust in you and
you alone. We know that in our weakness, you are made strong. Continue to have your
way in and through us. We love You.
In Jesus name, Amen.
